The Ego at play: The Shooters

You are all familiar with the Battlefield-Franchise. In 2008 it was time to issue a new version again: Battlefield: Bad Company. A nice Egoshooter with a Hollywood like story to go with it. As a newbie you got into B-Company, simply called the "Bad Company" because these troops were not exactly the most trustworthy soldiers. In a war against Russia the Squad operates behind enemy lines and is about to discover a hidden gold treasure. The fight over the noble metal starts, staring four leading characters, who take the fight rather personal. Jive talk and huge guns. You sort of go AWOL and internet tv software to act on your own on enemy territory. With the help of tanks and choppers this promised to be a lot of fun, especially in the multi player mode.

Battlefield: Bad Company scored in three categories at the same time. Position 3 at the (Ego-)Shooters and the best Mulitplayer-Games. Although it hasn't cheap broadband isp proclaimed with a lot of hype, due to the humour, the action and the nice characters Battlefield: Bad Company also scored number one at the "Surprise Game of the Year".

Position two in the "(Ego-)Shooter" and Multiplayer Category was won by a game that got indexed in half of Europe. A hard game from the good people of Epic Games. We will refer to it by its initials, as in "G.o.W. 2". Adult players will know what we are talking about here.

Finally position 1 in the category "(Ego-)Shooter". This game was the follow-up of the very much appraised Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Developer Treyarch did everything right and positioned the great Graphic -Engine, the old game-play and the addictive Multiplayer back to the Second World War. Even if you think of WWII as a "Well known Scenario", and a bit overused by now, Call of Duty: World at War was very successful and was honoured by best scores. The European and especially the German versions had to be softened a bit though in order to avoid indexing. Call of Duty: World at War not only went all the way in the Ego-Shooter Category, but also won the "Multiplayer-Title" of the year.
