I can remember when the iPhone clones seemed so innovative. At that time, Multimedia Promotion an FM radio in addition to the standard features seemed to be a big deal. Today, that is pretty much a given, and the bonus features have evolved and become much more advanced. Examples are real time analog television and / or web cams.
And it's Sms Contact only the features that have come a long way. The design of the phones have literally morphed into something else entirely. Many no longer even look like the iPhone. The new F698 is a good example of this.
The F698 has the USB interface and all of the standard features that we have been spoiled by, like: dual sim standby (you can have two phone numbers on one phone via two sim slots but you do not have to use Cms Portal feature); an e-book reader; Bluetooth; full Streamyx / MP4 capabilities; web browsing, email, and texting (MMS, SMS); syncing from computer to phone via data cable; real time analog TV via Streamyx Adsl upgradeable 2MB of memory; and a digital camera and webcam. (Note: the digital camera on this one is very nice and is 3.0 mega pixels as opposed to the standard 1.3. If you take a lot of photos, this can make a big difference).
What is really getting this phone lots of attention is its design. This is one of only a few flip phone clones, and, the 2.8 inch screen actually rotates 180 degrees so that you can watch TV, video, or see photos on a wide screen. When you are finished, the phone rotates back and flips down into a compact size that can still fit in a small pocket. It only weighs 125 grams and is 110 X 58 X 17 mm.
The F model is tri band and supports GSM 900 / 1800/ 1900 MHz. You don't need software or drivers. It will read your GSM sim card. I predict that it will sell well and will appeal to folks who travel a lot, have kids, or need a portable TV for down times. Folks that watch a lot of TV on their phone will likely very much enjoy the rotating screen.
I've not found any problems with this phone. The camera really doesn't get as much attention as the tilting / rotating screen, but it should because it's absolutely phenomenal for a camera phone and the editing features are very advanced.
Currently, the price on the F698 is around $150 - $189, depending on where you get it, which is a tad bit more expensive than most clones. But there are a lot of high quality features squeezed into this little flip phone.
